The Citizens Not Politicians ballot measure was certified by the Secretary of State\u2019s office with 535,005 certified signatures well above the 413,487 signatures required to make it onto the ballot this November.<\/p>

  • The proposed anti-gerrymandering amendment will do the following:
    Create a 15-member Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission made up of
    Democratic, Republican and Independent citizens that represent the different
    geographic areas and demographics of the state.<\/li>
  • Ban current or former politicians, political party officials and lobbyists from sitting
    on the commission.<\/li>
  • Require fair and impartial districts by making it unconstitutional to draw voting
    districts that discriminate against or favor any political party or politician.<\/li>
  • Require the commission to operate under an open and independent process.<\/li><\/ul>

    This amendment is incredibly important because Ohio is still one of the 10 most gerrymandered states in our nation. In 2022, residents in several communities were gerrymandered into districts to dilute their voting power. One such gerrymandered resulted in roughly 38,000 black citizens in SD11 in Lucas County being disenfranchised. The best way to make the districting process fairer is to get politicians out of it, so they can\u2019t stack the deck in their favor just to gain and keep power.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
