This bill was originally introduced as <\/span><b>S.B.\u202f83<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but got rebranded under its new number but with the same agenda: <\/span><b>shut down Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at public colleges and universities statewide view <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ohio_Senate_Bill_1_%282025%29?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ohio Senate Bill 1 (2025).<\/span><\/a><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bill goes into effect on <\/span><b>June 27, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, unless a repeal effort fueled by grassroots volunteers can gather enough signatures to block it from taking hold see the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/campaign-to-repeal-anti-dei-ohio-higher-education-tells-state-it-lacks-needed-voter-signatures\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campaign to repeal anti-DEI Ohio higher education<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-847fb2c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"847fb2c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Once the bill passes that means:<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2118ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b2118ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No scholarships just for Black or Brown students<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No DEI or bias training to make campuses more inclusive<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No hiring or admissions that prioritize diversity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No real talk about racism or systemic injustice in class<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><br \/><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No faculty strikes, weakened tenure protections, and forced patriotic civics curriculum<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b890ec8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b890ec8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s giving silence. And let\u2019s be honest \u2014 <\/span><b>we\u2019ll feel it the most<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> once this hits.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This law goes into effect <\/span><b>June 27, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so unless something changes, schools are already getting ready to cut things off.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basically, anything that helped level the playing field is now off the table.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6725fa3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6725fa3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Black Students, Black Doctors, Black Futures \u2014 Blocked<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-33d75dd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"33d75dd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the first hits? Scholarships for Black medical students.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black doctors in Cincinnati started a scholarship to push more Black men into medicine. Now, because of this law, the program must move to a private foundation just to survive. And in a state like Ohio \u2014 where Black communities already face massive health disparities \u2014 this is a serious blow.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can read more in this article from the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dei-race-higher-education-diversity-equity-inclusion-29e6d46c36e5eae6323551ca2f9c00ce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d1f5fd5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d1f5fd5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What This Means for Black College Students<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f8da62e e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"f8da62e\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-687f7a4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"687f7a4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This law doesn\u2019t just affect Central State \u2014 Ohio\u2019s only public HBCU \u2014 it touches Black students across OSU, Kent, UC, and more. DEI programs weren\u2019t about favoritism.
